Reefkeeper is on a roll

Default If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes..........

Went to the lfs today to take in one of my clown fish to trade in ,because the other two were picking on him. Saw this sm. black fish sitting on the bottom ,it was the size of your thumb . Never saw one like it before . The lfs guy said he just got it in and it was a Angler fish ,and didn't know if it would eat B-shrimp or not so he tried. I was thinking of getting it because it was so sm. I didn't think that it would go after my other fish because they all are bigger then him. As the lfs guy was putting some B-shrimp down in front of him, the other fish that I was going there to look at [Neon Dotty Back ]came over to get a bite. This NDB was a good 2 1/2 in. to 3 in. long , in one flash this little black Angler ate the NDB ,just like that it was gone !!!. I couldn't believe my eyes !!!
I was thinking of buying him to bring home ,after that scene it changed my mind pretty quick [Who says, size matters] !!!

dude, you would freak out if you ever were on a nmfs or noaa reasearch vessel... the deep water trolls would freak you smooth out. It takes an hour for the net to get to the bottom.. an hour to get it up.. They catch some freaky stuff. of course alot of the fish have distended air bladders after their trip! There are alot of deep water shrimp boats that pull some cool stuff up as well. Not anywhere near as deep as the R/V's.

Ducksmasher
I've done a trip to R.I. to do some scalloping, and my skipper hung a 30 pound Sculpin off the ass of my pants while I was picking the deck! That was the first one I'd ever seen that big. Scared the Bejeesus out of me! I can still see the guys laughing at me. Sculpins are some ugly fish.

That is another reason to do research before you buy a fish. I have watched so many people buy on impulse and end up with something they didn't want.

I'm kind of wish you would have bought it so I could yell at you for buying a fish without researching...... then, maybe you would know how it feels!!!

I had a friend that had a 2-1/2" sargassum angler, he was telling it was acting weird sort of leaning at a 45 degree angel and jerking. He got it to turn around and to his surprise it had the tail of his 3" dwarf lion fish sticking out of it mouth and the fins of the lion poking through the side of the angler, needles to say they both died. Would have been a great humorous picture.
