| I've put all my fish into my tank the way tangster does it, I would never dream of putting a whole bag of LFS water into my tank. The thing to remember is your not grabbing them, you are cupping them in your hand and lowering them into the tank. I would much rather have them in my clean hand then rubbing all over inside a net, getting their spines caught. _________ Link to My 75 Reef Hardware 75G 20G DIY Refugium/Sump 2 250W MH, 4 65W PC Koralia 1 and Koralia 2 Powerheads for Currents Mag 9.5 for Sump/Fuge Return TLF Phosban Reactor Coralife Super Skimmer Software Domino Damsel Sixline Wrasse Coral Beauty Maroon Clown Reef Hogfish Cleaner Shrimp Camelback Shrimp Assorted Turbo Snails Red Legged and Blue Legged Hermits 3 Mexican Turbos Frogspawn Coral Foxtail Coral Pulsing Xenia Bubbletip Anemone |

| I'm going to try Tangsters method next time as well, sound logical to me.
I don't get all the preachiness. This thread lists various acclimation methods. Pick and choose as you wish, no need for the shots at peoples methods. Whatever works for you.
Currently I float for 30-45 mins and use a turkey baster to remove some water and add tank tank water every 15 mins for an hour. Quote:

we "all" have to remember "some of us" are experianced here and most are not ,
and suggesting we "hold" these fish in any way is a BAD idea.
The the less we meddle with our tank ,fish . etc THE BETTER'! ( imo )
as well known round here " GO SLOW LET IT GROW" and quit "meddling with this stuff.
WE ( humans ) have only just discovred and begun to keep salt water organisms in our homes.
and all of a sudden "we think" by handling them "more" we will succeed ?
GO slow don't "rattle" or "jar" the bags / holding tank" , light off when possible, and "slip" the fish off as EASY as possible
( and temp as near as possible to 'bag/tank water )
cant even "recall" how many fish /inverts/corals , etc. i have seen from others die' cause "i think i need to do somthing more such as touch it/put more "snake oils" in the tank..
GOD only knows how much w'eve screwed up in this "diverse world" seems when ever we start putting our hands on it
it go's to the "deep six"..
My self or any one cant even compare to the millions of years of evalution of the marine world/nature,etc. |

Not a good idea if you have corals to ever pour a LFS water into your system most all LFS treat with and maintain copper in their fish systems to help with parasites.. I have asked a LFS point blank if they ran copper in their systems . Get home test the water and they had more copper in their systems then I'd want in my reef tank..Now it may not harm anything at first as the dilution factor is huge. But metals will build up and another reason to run a metal attracting polymer like Kent's and sea chem sell .You never no..):
Also I don't recall ever saying to GRAB anything (: I'm very careful these days to go to the extreme to be sure I say what I mean as It seems I have obtained the attention of the Reef Tank Nazis (: Then I get the blame of being to wordy ?? _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

No joke, I was reading that post and I thought it was another member (who will go nameless) then low a behold it was some one else.
Just for the record I added my last two fish using Tangsters method. I was scared to death being as they were both Tangs and one was fairly large but all went well and no excitement from the fish. The smaller one never even acted like it had been moved from the fish store.
On a side note I thought I would be experimental and acclimate my starfish (3) for 10 hours and it was a disaster for inknown reasons but Jason's idea makes sense with water spikes due to the low volume of water... _________ Kris

| OK so all of you are talking about this transfer involving water from the LFS, I take it very few if any of you are using a quarantine tank prior to transferring to the display tank?
