Help with ID and Behaviour

Please take a look at the link from Fish Base.

They are IDing this fish as a black Leopard Wrasse. I don't buy it. I think Fishbase is wrong.

Leopard Wrasse

A buddy has taken down his tank and sold me his Leopard Wrasse, Not thinking that the 2 would fight I took him home to his new Big 400G tank. Well the Wrasse Above will not let the poor little Leopard wrasse out of the rock work. I'm worried. Help

Good reason to worry. I have a six line wrasse. I added a lubbocks wrasse. The lfs told me they would get along. My six line kept the lubbocks pinned in the rockwork (just as you describe) untill it starved to death.

Yes thats a picture of a black leopard wrasse, Aka Macropharyngodon kuiteri. You putting this in a reef tank ? Might want to reconsider it .. A little info on it They need deep sand to bury in and will root anything on the bottom from Brain corals to clams They eat clam as a natural diet and can be very hard to keep long term. Nope fish base has it correct and that one is still a female Also you may be thinking about a Macropharyngodon meleagris aka common name Blackspotted / Leopard Wrasse

I've had it for 2 years. It lives with 5 clams, Brain corals, Sand bed. Never digs

Ya I hear ya. But I'm starting to believe mine is too.

I search for a correct ID before I bought him 2 years ago. I remember finding a Latin name from fish base but not Leopard wrasse so I never thought bringing a Leopard wrasse into the tank would be a problem. I was wrong.

If you have had it for 2 yrs and its fine maybe he never read the books on what he is and what he's supposed to eat or act ? Another wrasse that looks a bit simiular to the black lepoard wrasse is the Macropharyngodon geoffroyi ( Potter's Leopard Wrasse

This one here looks more like the Yellow-spotted Wrasse { Macropharyngodon negrosensis Herre.

Then What is called by common name IMO Blackspotted Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris )

has a totaly different dorsal spine configuration and amount of spines.
