Get the frogfish. Like I said they are the coolest fish you will ever find. When they feed it is hysterical.
They are not as bad as it sounds once you get going on it. They are not for people just setting up their first SW tank by far, but it is also not as bad as it sounds.
Their metabolism is very slow so they eat maybe every 3 to 4 days. (bigger ones more frequently) Ask your LFS what they are feeding it and maybe they got them it eat frozen already (doubt it...takes too much time). Just make sure no goldfish (My LFS owner was feeding goldfish and had no idea that they were bad...I did more research than he did on it)
I almost got mine to eat frozen before he died, but I pierced it on a feeding stick to much and he grabbed it and when it did not come off it scared him and he never wanted it again. But if you try to feed frozen, wait until it settles in (if he was not feeding frozen) and turn off lights, and soak food in garlic a ton, then have moonlights on and try to mimic fish a little (about a couple inches away) You will have to watch behavior of froggie and how he eats prior to trying this so you know how he approaches the food.
Also, you can get the shrimp and drip them to have the get used to salt and just place them in the tank if you are unable to set up a feeder tank or go to store that freq. I would not do that many of shrimp at one time, no more than a dozen as they dont live long (in fresh or salt) and that way you can keep eye on how he is eating.
Also, crabs (hermit) and snails can be placed in tank to keep up with the clean up. I had both in my tank...if he ever tried to eat them (which he did not) they just retracted in their shell. Also my moms eats the mollies...mine was just too lazy. Mollies are easier to keep and breed like rats, esp if you gradually acclimate to SW.
There are some people who will get on and say you should NEVER feed anything to SW fish other then SW feeders (damsels) or that you should only feed frozen. Well, NOT every fish will eat frozen, and there is very mixed opinion on feeding FW feeders. Just have to be careful about the quality of fish you get. Get rid of any fish that does not look healthy to you. That is why I tried to get my own feeder tank started. Most all info I found said it is alright to feed FW feeders, and from my experience with 2 lions and my frog and my moms frog as long as you gut feed them. Make sure you buy your feeders from rep. store. I have never bought mine from some of the local warehouse petstores you might find (the co and smart) as I would rather go to the LFS that tend to specialize more in that stuff. My mom has recently started going there and bought minnows or ghost shrimp there, which I would not do, but she did not want to drive extra to LFS
But I would buy another frog any day. I am banning myself from LFS for many reasons, none of which I dont need to spend the money right now and I dont want any temptation of finding a new froggie.
