| Re: DEATH TANK!!! Umm, don't know if you've ever seen a mature Maroon, but they are HUGE - you could make a decent meal of one.
The commonly accepted minimum tank size for a single Maroon Clown seems to be 30 gallons. I hope you have better luck with yours in your 10 than I did with mine in my 30- as the only fish with great water conditions and 10% changes weekly, he lived a week.
I suggest a Perc or a False Perc for this size tank as the ONLY fish.

| Re: DEATH TANK!!! Actually David still has his maroon I think. He had a super long power outage from Charley and lost everything except the clown and a few other things. That means his clown has been alive for 5 months. Maroons are very hardy. _________ &&Right now I'm in the middle of a conversion from reef to Discus/ planted aquarium. Hair algae beat me down. Maybe a nano in the future. Everything screwed up so I'm converting to FOWLR. Wish me luck. |

| Re: DEATH TANK!!! I've seen Maroon Clowns a full 6" in length and 2 1/2" - 3" from the top of the back to the belly. Too big for a 30 gallon at maturity for sure. Mine is one of the fastest growing fish in the 80 gallon tank and eats like a pig! _________ Just tryin to recreate God's perfection in a glass bowl. 20 Gallon Reef W/Live Rock, mated pair of Maroon Clowns, Softies, 110 watts PC 10,000k lighting, and skimmer. |

| Re: DEATH TANK!!! hey david, i feel your pain. a 10 gal set up can be very difficult to keep, as others have said. you MUST realize that it will not maintain all the fish you .want without wildly fluctuating water chem. levels.stick with just a few small hardy fish and do regular partial water changes {at least 25%}. I know patience is hard to find. but imo your best bet is to save for a larger setup, at least 55 gal. i do have a 10 gal reef tank myself that has been working well, but all it house is live rock and 2 damsels along with the critters. a small reef tank can be quite beautifull and fasinating to watch even if it doesn't contain a bunch of fish. you will be amazed at the live you will soon see from your live rock. I know i recieve no end of pleasure from my tanks, but they take time.
PS, i caught my 55 gal on sale and got most of the components (not all mind you) for just over 300 dollars.
Hang in there, and the best of luck to Y'all.

| Re: DEATH TANK!!! And if Marc jumped off a bridge, would you follow? FWIW, just because some one else is choosing to cramp a pair of 6" fishes into a 10g (read:20 inches long) aquarium unhumanly, it doesn't warrant others to follow in his foot steps. IMO thats horriable and one of the hobbies/industries dark sides. He should call it a 10 cell, rather then a 10g tank. |

| Re: DEATH TANK!!! I saw a 29 gallon tank with a 14.5" sump, not exactly a 10 gallon. Did I miss something?
I must respectfully disagree with anyone who thinks they can keep a pair of clownfish in a 10 gallon tank. Not fair to the fish even though they may survive.
Our job is to provide an environment they thrive in IMHO. |
