columbian sharks in saltwater tank?

I have heard that people have put Columbian sharks in saltwater tanks, wondering if there would be any truth to that and what you guys thought. just an idea

i don't think there is any truth to it because the columbian shark is really a brackish catfish. http://www.badmanstropicalfish.com/p...profile63.html People do keep them, but mainly in a species tank.

I thought as wel that this is a brackish only fish but these things are so energetic i thought they might make an ok addition to a saltwater tank.

I don't know. They require a salinity range of 1.005 to 1.015. I don't believe you can keep this fish in a s/w tank because of its higher salinity requirements. JMHO [smiley=yaknow.gif]

Belive it or not, I've seen catfish in a FO system in Sand City, right outside Montery, CA. Nope, not a coral catfish, a real catfish. Which kind escapes me now, but I do know the sg was around. 1.019. 1.015 could house marine fish, 1.015 is routinelly used in wholesalers facilities to hold them.

These fish can be acclimated to a saltwater tank.

I keep mines with african cichlids.

You are correct in believing that they can live in saltwater. They are a Brackish fish though. Just like a Green Spotter Puffer the Columbian Shark spends time in full saltwater at different times of there lives. They will be successfully acclimated if you take your time and they should be at least 6" IMO. Also they do better in groups and need lots of swimming space. They also need a peaceful tank with no small fish they will eat them if given the opportunity. Good luck they can be a great addition to a saltwater tank.

i started a 180 g saltwater tank about a month or so ago,this tank is going to a corel/fish sysytem. Would the columbian sharks be a reefsafe fish?
