| clown died 2 days after purchase I bought the healthiest looking FP at the LFS the other day, I aclimated him to the QT where I had a couple fish being treated for ich (other fish in the tank at the LFS had signs so I figured I would put the little clown in while mine are being treated to.
he was great yesterday, fed him and he was happy and peachy keen.
I come home and he is half hearted swimming, being pushed around and upside down by the filter...
damnit. |

| the other fish are two blue damsels and a five banded damsel.
I have been using warm water and a copper based ich medicine (turns water blue) paired with 50% water change every 48 hours.
I would think signs would show by the second day, not be fine and dandy then belly up
growing pains in this hobby are harsh |

An often overlooked problem that can cause sudden fish death could be the exchange water you are using for those large water changes....
Getting water from a known good source?
Are you aerating it well before using?
Checking SG at proper temp? (I aways test couple of times, just to make sure.) (am not sure I understand, "...using warm water..." )
Not using right after mixing?
If nothing else... "...the other fish are two blue damsels and a five banded damsel..." --- that makes for a pretty tough neighborhood for a little clown.

| My guess is that the stress associated with the quarantine tank water and the water from the pet shop were too stressful even though you may have indeed acclimated it correctly. Often times, the treatment for the cure is much more dangerous than the disease, bacteria, virus, protozoan or parasitic infection/infestation!
Also, the damsel fish that you have in the quarantine tank are very boisterous individuals!!!
One other thing...what are the water parameters in your quarantine tank?

| I'd ask how large is the quarantine tank ? and what filtration do you use on it and how long has the tank been established ? and how long have the two Damsels been in there and what do you have for them to hide in as for rock work and or clay flower pot's .. Copper can kill tangs and any fish if its dosed at to high of concentration also it attacks their livers and kidneys ,, How warm is the water in the tank ? You may have killed off all the bacteria and hit a ammonia spike ? Lots of things could happen hell fish just die we all have had it to happen.. But tangs in General need pristine water conditions .. Ax for ich you have that in the tank always anyways .. _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

| I've checked at fishlore, this is what they write about "compatibility" of clowns with copper-based anti-ick medicine: Quote: |
A quarantine tank is a necessity as this fish is susceptible to most saltwater disease, especially marine ich (cryptocaryon) and brooklynella. Use extreme caution before using copper medications because clownfish are very sensitive to copper.
| Please refer to the link.
That could be one of the reasons... I hope next time you will have better luck! |

| We got the copper based quite by accident, it's written in Japanese and was what one of the LFS guys suggested. I'll answer all other questions later, I just woke up and have to tend to the family. lol |
