Are you referring to Paracanthurus hepatus? Ive seen those called royal tangs, but typically they are called hippo or regal tangs. They are all the same except for the bellies, some have yellow, some dont. Or are you talking about the Acanthurus leucosternon, powder blue tangs?

Generally, fish that come from different regions, have different markings but overall similar. The ones with the yellow bellies are more reef safe then the one with the blue belly. The blue belly will eventually terrorize your corals when it gets to adult size.

Great movie and very enlightening on the blue tang.....and boy isn't that the truth when you are trying to get a fish.....I did the same thing and every fish except the one you are after will go into your catching device.
