| Blonde Naso Acting strange. Hellow everyone I'm am new to the forum this is my first post. I have had my 72 bowfront tank running for about 5 weeks. I have A rusty angel, Pigmy Angel, Yellow eye tang, Blonde Naso, Firefish, and a Maroone clown.
My Naso has been acting strange, He is always behind the same rock. He doent swim around very much. He has dark spots all over his body.
The good thing is that he eats like a horse! I feed him sea veggies everyday About 2" of it. He eats the most of it, the other fish eat the rest. I also feed 1/2 a cube of frozen food. Could I be feeding too much?
Last night I got home to find my mimic tang dead, I have no idea why. He doing fine the day before.
What can I be doing wrong? I had my water tested over the weekend and it was good. |

| welcome.
well feeding everyday is bad idea.try every other day.have you checked your water condition any nitrates nitrite amonia.they are all fish killers.he might be stressed out.but he may also be lazy to swimming around to scavenge because he gets food every day.see if every other day changes his habits.but dont forget to check your water condition one dead fish may lead to more. |

| I hate to break it to you but you've got way too many fish in that tank. With some of the fish you've chosen you should have a 125 to 180 gallon tank. It could just be stress that killed your fish. It sounds like this tank has just gotten done cycling. How long have you had these fish in there and when you say your tank has been running 5 weeks do you mean it's been cycled for 5 weeks or do you mean it got started up 5 weeks ago? _________ Kris

| Thanks for your imput.
I bought the tank used and we took it down and put it up the same day. I left the live sand and also the water w/ all that was in the filter. I had the tank filled up the same night. I let the tank sit for about 1 week before I put in the clown fish. Then I added about 1 fish a week.
I know I rushed the process, And I'm regreting it now. I just hope he doesnt die on me. I'm hoping since he is eating alot he isnt in real bad shape.
Everytime I take the water to the fish store it checks out fine. |

| Yes well a Naso is a finicky tang as far as water quality goes hell they all are but Naso's are at the top of the I need perfect water list and I think you may have tweaked it with a mini cycle ? is it eating ? any outward signs of disease like bumps or white spots on the skin and or eyes clear red rash on the body anywhere, Then again they are a shy fish and it may be fine Just don't feed the tank to death to see it eat.. You will do more harm then good. As for rushing it LOL all regret it at some point and you are not the first as was I yrs ago before I started to use my old Grandfathers methods with cycling and animal care..... _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

| When I first brought my Blonde Naso home he was skittish for weeks before he slowed down. If I move towards the tank slow he will stay out and see if I have food but if I make a sudden move he is off into the rock and won't come out for a while.
Make sure you don't have little kids tapping on the glass, that really bothers the fish. May just still be the new kid on the block. _________ Scott 265g (Peninsula)

But it is all over his body. When I first got him he was all grey with no marks.
I will post pics when I get home from work. |
