Black and white OC Clown fish

i have 2 black and white oc clown fish but their faces are orange. will their faces become all black when they are older? or are there 2 types?

 

Yes, from what I have read they will turn all black as they reach adulthood. Not positive on this, but I think I'm correct here.

 

I've seen both...a friends changed, and another did not. Not positive if they were different species though.

 

I have 2 black OC clowns, got at the same time and 1 had a little orange on its face and the other was smaller and had almost a full orange face, this was a year ago, now the bigger one(female) has no orange and the littler one has almost no orange, kinda looks like he only has orange lips. It should go away with age.

 

I can't decide if I want black ocs or true percs... wish I could have both lol

 

Seems like there are so many variations of hybrids out there now that predicting the mature color of any clownfish is hard if they are captive breed. But I would say that most tend to darken as they get older, like a year or so.

which, according the their site, adults can maintain an orange face.

They claim it is a more mature specimen. It indeed looks more solid black, but does't seem any "more mature" than the adult pictured on the liveaquaria site to me.

FWIW, I have seen juveniles sold as "australian b&w clowns" that were solid black and white.

It's a mystery to me too, and there are definitely some variations out there. Keep us posted on yours, if they turn solid black or not... I'm interested to find out... I'll subscribe to this thread.

 

They will change as they mature.

 

but not all do... I've seen larger adult B&W clowns that have orange faces.

 

These fish were bred in maine near where I live they about 99.9 percent of the time do change. it make take time but yes they do.
