| Do you have any boisterous tankmates that may spook it into jumping? |

| I would watch the watchman though as they can be a little territorial sometimes if the jawfish is intruding where it hangs out (seen it first hand in a buddies tank) so you may want to keep some sort of cover until it acclimates just in case (although better all the time). I had jawfish in the past jump out of the smallest little area in the top from being picked on by a bicolor blenny so you do need to make sure it's a pretty tight fit. Make sure to have enough live sand for the little dude to dig its burrow also |

Ollie51, I've bitten the bullet and accepted that in my 90G with no covers (I run halides too, and don't need the temp rise or for the glass to become obscured with salt), I just can't own jumpers.
It's a tough decision, but to me, I have live with whatever decision I make and either cover the tank, not own jumpers.
I've decided not to cover it, and I absolutely won't risk killing fish.
I'm guessing you probably know the ultimate result here if you don't cover that tank. It might be a week, it might be 5 years, but jumpers are aptly named. They're not called "non-jumpers" for a reason.
Cover your tank or get store credit from your LFS.

| i've heard of some people using a window screen type material over the tops of their tanks too, keeps inhabitants in and lets air get moved still and doesnt block enough light to make a difference

| Yeah that is a nice fish , but as reefsparky mentioned you need to cover your tank or it's going to end up dead. Don't use the glass though, just not a good idea. The old eggcrate method or a screen of some sort. Good luck ! keep us posted. |

| Ok, this is a dumb question...I just got MH in my new tank (135g). I have a chiller, it is keeping tank at 78.8. I have also added extra pumps (korala 2 and 3) in the tank for circulation. I am looking at getting some new, smaller profile pumps that is connected to a wavemaker. (just trying to get money saved back up)
I understand why you would not want a lid for the heat, but if you have a chiller like me, would it be ok. I have 3 glass lids that the store placed on my tanks. I was never told not to put them on. Should I take them off? I do wipe off a lot of saltcreep off the lids freq but if I keep that up, is it ok to keep it on. In my old tanks I had a few jumpers and really dont want to go through that again. |
