|  Adding Fish
Ok, so i have a 245 and i want to add yellow tangs and a sailfin tang and i wanted to know what the best way to add them would be? add them at the same time or at different times... _________ Tank Specs:
55 Gallon Mixed Reef
48" Tek Light: 4-54W T5 HO Fluorescents
Bulbs:
1 x 54w Fiji Purple T5 HO Fluorescent
1 x 54w Super Actinic Blue T5 HO Flourescent

I would add them at the same time. I have bought a few fish and put them in a hang on type acrylic box so that they can get used to the water and so that the other fish can see them witout eating their dorsal fins or killing them outright. Is that a good idea or should I have a quarentine set up. Ik now it is importand for medicating them the need arises.

Quarantining fish in a sterile environment and treating the livestock with copper is a way of eliminating pathogens before they are introduced to the tank and infect other fish. In my case, my LFS runs copper in his tanks so I do not quarantine my fish and have never had a problem. Adding tangs is best done in odd numbers with juveniles. I have successfully added in threes and this eliminates territorial squabbles. Your 245 gallon should accomodate this methodology. Your tank will accomodate three full grown tangs. It is better to add three different genuses that don't compete for the same food source. This link will go into detail on the subject. arg...my teacher is dumb...he wants to put in 3 yellow tangs, 1 sailfin and more fish...im thinking of adding like 3 small yellows and a small sailfin and ...maybe one or 2 other tangs...i know it sounds like alot but we have like a 100 gal sump so...hopfully that will add to the filtration...ugh...he thinks he knows so much...he was like schooter dragonets eat algae...lol i was dying  ...so u think that this tank can only hold 3 tangs? | |

That's too many Zebrasomas and will lead to serious territorial battles and food competion as they eat the same thing. I recommend:
Zebrasoma
Sailfin (Zebrasoma veliferum), 15"
Ctenochaetus
Yellow Eyed Kole (Ctenochaetus strigosus), 7"
Acanthurus
Convict (Acanthurus triostegus), 10"
They all forage for different algea and are the least aggressive of each genus. | |

heres the thing...my teacher is stupid and wants yellow tangs and a sailfin...lol...would they be ok if i get them both really small lol...ught...im gona have to choose...in your opinion whats better yellow tang or sailfin? | |
