My camera doesn't take good pictures of my tank, so no pix..

I bought a piece of live rock that has 2 nice brownish,
with bluish " stars " on them. Sort of frilly edges.. Around 4 inches across. mushrooms ..
The rock kinds of stands up, with one mushroom on the side and one on the top.. The one on top hands over the one on the side some, and touches it, causing it to " burn " where touching..??
kind of changes colors in that spot, and that spot dies.
They both still get plenty of light, even in the shaded spot..
But, not to much.. Both are still doing very well..

Can the same type of mushroom growing next to each other " fight " ..??

These are from the same group, and family.. the same kind..??

Should I cut the one off the side, and Frag it..??
I don't want to lose it..

    Thanks for any info, Larry

    Thanks..
I don't guess it could be splitting..??
It only has one mouth.. If not, I think I may need to frag it .
And get the damaged part off..
    What you think..??

    Larry

I'm sure nothing is eating on it, etc....

Wow, this is a little out of my league, but is it possible to cut one off at the base and superglue it on another rock? Is that what you mean by fragging? Or are you thinking about cutting off a piece of the mushroom?

    Hey Budd,
Yes thinking about cutting it off at the base, no glue..
I would cut it into 4 pieces, getting a piece of mouth in each.
Then letting them stick them selves to small pieces of coral.. Frags..

I been reading ALOT, incase I needed to do this..

Plus, would love to have more of these..

    Thanks, Larry

The mushrooms that you are talking about are probably rhodactis or discosomas. The stinging through chemical warfare doesn't playout between various species of mushrooms, and unheard of in same species. You may have a problem with reduced light or other variables such as aiptasia or mojano anemones causing the injury to your mushrooms!

    Thanks

Yes, I couldn't understand it.. Being they are all the same..
To save it, I went ahead and cut it off, Fragging it..
1st time for me.. I learned ALOT. !!!!!!!
I just hope some of it lives thru what I put it thru..
    " Cut thru it's mouth " I couldn't even see it's mouth..!! but I got 4 or 5 pieces of something..

    Anyway ....

When I cut it off the coral, there was a hole in the coral under where the damaged part of the mushroom was ..??

Maybe something is living in the coral..

Would a fresh water dip. ( with RO water ) ..
Get rid of whats in the coral, with out hurting the mushrooms..??
There are some baby mushrooms on it also.. Will they be safe..

Or is there a better way to do this..

Thanks very much for any info, Larry
