I'm counting on this to remove all the junk that quite frankly my current skimmer is not up to the job.
I would spend the little extra and get the overflow cup that PM builds because it shuts the skimmer down if it gets full, very nice feature. If not you could come home to a floor full of skimmate......

Skimmer is working excellent, you will not be disappointed.

I have a spare float switch laying about so I will probably use that to ensure that the skimmer turns itself off.

It's good to know that it is working well, how are the noise levels?

For me that is hard to say because I have to exhaust fans running to. I can barely hear it suck air, if you are keeping it under the tank you won't be able to hear it.

The float switch is not how it shuts the skimmer down. It uses a ping pong ball that seats up in a housing when the water level rises and shuts the air off so that it can't exhaust.

Yeah I had a look at their waste collection container. My skimmer is already on route so I will have to go for a DIY solution (I live in the UK so postage is rather expensive). The easiest thing for me is to use a float valve that I have laying about which will just turn off the pump. Otherwise I have seen a few plans that are very simple to do without turning off the pump, basically the same idea as you just mentioned without the ping pong ball.

You might be able to use the float valve to turn off the input air to the skimmer. Both have a 1/4" fitting if you got the little Kent float valve used in RO/DI units.

Good idea, didn't think of that! This was what I am looking at if I don't bother with the valve.

Pretty much the same thing the PM one does. It uses a ping pong ball that seats up and cut off the air and that one is just using the liquid. Should work just fine for you. Make sure you post some pics when you get it running and broke in. Will take 24 to 72 hours for it to break in and really start skimming.

Well Otty how is the new skimmer? Got any pictures of the 1000 gallon lagoon you put in the basement?

Skimmer is awsome, you ought to see me carry that thing outside to clean the cup......won't fit in the sink and Mommy frowns on the shower.

Will try and get some pics this weekend. Will be at Kings Island tomorrow and going to ride to North Carolina Sunday for a Pepsi and payday bar. Boys at HMIN want to go for a ride so I told them to meet me at 5:00 am at the Interstate and well go for a ride. Wonder how many will show up....
