Default New Tank Thread

Short Summary:
I need to get down to one tank in the house and I have chosen the SW setup.
I have a 12 month old 46 bow front with all HOB equipment. Even though
It is finally going fairly well, I just want more and better from it.

I have sold off my Cichlids from my 90 and was planning on using that tank and stand for
The new setup. The tank is not drilled so I have been figuring out what to do with that.

After looking at all the options, I will be trading it in on a 110 with a megaflow overflow setup.
I want to go with a sump / fuge this go around and have been researching a bit on this.

I have looked at the over the counter sumps like Megaflow, Esopps, ect. I have looked at all the
DIY sumps, ect.

Here are the Cichlids on the day of eviction.

Everyone is gone, they will be missed.

All cleaned out

Here are the new tenants eagerly awaiting their new home

Dry fit of my 20 gallon

Big pile of stuff
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/double2mk/138.jpg

Currently I have a problem sizing the sump into the stand. The 30 breeder physically fits,
But the stand will need to come apart to get it in. OK, so if I do that, I don’t see how it is humanly possible to perform maintenance on it or replace parts.

Now the 20 fits very nicely with no mods, and if I had to get at it, I could slide it out with no problems. Problem, with the 20 is I don’t think everything I want to fit will,.

One idea is to use the 20 as the sump, and my 10 gallon as the fuge. Only problem here is figuring out how to get the water from one to the other.

So that is where I am at now. Hopefully I can get the 110 by this weekend…

\Cheers

Don't put anything under the stand that you cannot get out if it starts to leak. I have seen pics of individuals going in through the side and buiding a door to pull it out if need be.

I have a 20g long and have a Mag9, a Rio2100, a small PH for the UV, a medium sized skimmer and a heater. I also have about 6 gallons leftover to cordon off as a fuge.

Thanks
I was thinking the same thing. Although I could fit a 30 long, it would not be accessible and that just doesnt make sense.

I can fit a 20 long and slide it in and out. The exception may be the 20" tall protein skimmer. I am looking into that now.

It can never be easy can it...

OMG, what a mess in that last pic, Im surprised that your wife hasnt nagged you about that yet. If you can make an opening on one of the sides, then you could remove that panel and do whatever you need to do.

LOL, who says she hasnt been...
I guess at the root, I am so afraid of messing with the integrity of either the tank or the stand that it makes decisions tough.

For example, without the center brace, the 30 long will pull straight out.
Not the bottom front of the cabinet has a fancy modling and does not weven touch the ground. Tells me that its not needed for support, but....

Cheers

Default Sump-Fuge design

With a bunch of measuring and thinking, and yes, a bunch of corona.. I believe the 20 long will be the best way to go. I can get the tank in and out without dismantling anything, and if I remove the two drawers, I can get in and work on things or replace pumps. The cup on the EV180 will be serviceable as well and If I remove the cap, I can even pull the sump out in it’s entirety. These are all very important steps I feel so I do not paint myself into a corner, so to speak.

Anyway, here is the plan I am looking at now.
Whacha think ?

[IMG] http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...nsump-fuge.jpg [/IMG]

Thanks, and cheers

Default It Fits

Finally, something fits...
Here is the 20 that I got from the LFS tonight.
Used but it hold water. I will plug the intake somehow.

Otty, the IMG tags didn't work, whats up ?

The 90 is packed in the car and I am going to the other LFS tomorrow for hopefully a good trade up to the 110 megaflow.

\Cheers
