Hey one thing you might want to watch out for Reef_guru. Your pH probe holder is above the water level of the Ca reactors chamber so when the power goes off and gravity pulls water out of the reactor your probe may be out of water for some time and causing it to dry out. Maybe try to add a plumbers loop and make the discharge side of the second chamber go higher then the probe holder in a loop.
I ran across this problem and put my probe holder underneath the two chambers so it can never be drained of water causing the probe to dry out. Just something you might keep your eye on. Other then that your about ready to add FRAGS!

the reactors main water feed is from the main pump and the K2Rs pump is being used for just a recirc, i kinda redisgned the bloody thing. a power outage wont be an issue since the main pump runs 24/7 but the CO2 does not, and there is also a power back up. so the probe will never dry out.

im still waiting for the mini LB's to show up so i can wire them with 400w e ballasts and reeflux 12k se mh bulbs. then i will need to make a top rail to connect the two LB's on an adjustable cable tensioner in order to change the height. with that i can check the PAR with a meter dependent on bulb height from the corals since the tank is only 12" deep.

any ideas on which carib-sea sand to use for the fuge and a 1" layer in the main tank?

Great job RG, looks like good work. Is this tank going to be just for you to watch frags grow or will you start selling frags soon? Either way, great job and keep us posted and the pics coming

otty:
the fuge has a plenum and the figi pink is not friendly with plenum or berlin, check out caribsea your aragonite source and more! and goto the product line area to see the qualifications of each sand, the chart breaks down the usable areas of each product.

for the refugium the only sands that are plenum and berlin usable:
arig-alive---- Special Grade Reef Sand, West Caribbean Reef ( my choice ), Florida Crushed Coral
dry argonite---- Seafloor Special Grade Reef Sand ( my choice ), Flamingo Reef Sand, Bermuda Pink
geo-marine----Geo-Marine Florida Crushed Coral
and if i were to choose only one of them it would be the west caribbean reef, do you agree or disagree?

for the frag tank im using Ocean Direct Original Grade since there is just a 1" layer of sand

Why are you using two 400 watt MH's when the tank is 12" tall? Also what skimmer are you using?

_________

120 gallon mixed reef, 30 gallon refugium, two 250 watt Phoenix 14K DE metal halides in Lumenarc stealth reflectors, Two 48" T-5's in TEK II reflectors, AquaC EV-120 protein skimmer, Mag Drive 12 return pump, one Hydor Koralia 4

to answer this question correctly it would take to long and would be to much for this thread. so to keep it simple the main tank also has the same 400w bulbs. now i have a question for you. in regards to cri, par, lux and kelvin, why wouldnt you use 400w on a sps only tank that is 12" high?

Quote:

lifereef svs24 thats running another system, the extra pump under the tank is for the skimmer.
