| I do need to add some more pictures Jason. I'll try and grab some tonight. Maybe some of the equipment and whatnot.
Otty, the whole reason I want to use base sand is the fear of introducing something into the tank I don't want. With the base sand it's dead so no worries there. Might take a little longer to mature the sand bed but I'm in no hurry. Somebody once said, "go slow, let it grow" _________ Kris

| Well I added my sand bed to the display tank this past Saturday. The sand I went with is a mix of Figi pink and custom sea floor grade. The Figi pink was live sand and the sea floor was base sand. I put 105 pounds in there and it was just about perfect to get the sand bed depth about the same as the top of the lower trim ring.
One thing I would say about transporting live sand or base sand for that matter is it absorbs heat like crazy. I just tossed the bags of sand in the bed of the truck for the ride home. 2 hours after I got home and in the AC the sand was still pretty hot.
Just something to keep in mind. |

| Well guys I've got some bad news. I got home from work yesterday and my crocea clam was dead. Well actually it was in the process of dying. It still moved when I picked it up but it stank like all that is nasty. Went ahead and tossed it but before I did I looked at it through a magnifying glass to see if I could see any snails or anything else wierd. Nothing out of the norm and it looked fine Sunday night.
My squamosa still looks as good as ever but now I'm worried about it.
One thing I did notice was when I moved the crocea a couple weeks ago is it never closed up all the way while I was moving it. I thuoght this was wierd but the clam looked good and it was reactive to light changes... |

| No No, Roger these are the clams that were in the 180. I've had everything in QT since tearing the 180 down. I've also got some frogspawn, some hammer coral, a large bubble coral, some zoas, a huge cup coral, and a squamosa still in QT.
Guess I should have mentioned that. The only thing in the 180 right now is what should be. Not in a hurry on that thing at all.
I hate to start loosing stuff out of the QT tank though. I'm going to do a 10 gallon water change tonight in case the clam put a bunch of amonia in the water. I just changed out the carbon over the weekend so I should be ok on that.
Just don't know what could have casued this. There really isn't anything in the QT that could eat the thing except a crab but he leaves everything alone. The only thing I could come up with was maybe this thing despite living for a while never recovered from me tearing it's foot 5 or 6 months ago??? |

If the basial musle or threads where damaged that long ago I doubt that was the cause ? Is it setting on bare glass bottom or is it setting on a shell or flat rock ? |
