Default saltwater noob

Hi all, i have been a long time freshwater hobbyist, but a friend of mine talked me into SW, and now we are no longer friends. J/K

I have been lurking for a while, and been reading some really good stuff, so here i am.

My current setup is 90gl, 100lbs LS, 90lb LR, Pro clear 400 wet/dry some snails and crabs, i let the tank cycle, over a month, put two fish in there rock beauty (BIG MISTAKE) and tomato clown, and after a few days both came down with ick, so thats when i started to dig around i found out about QT tanks, heaters, etc etc...
So to make a long story short, its been 4 weeks now with no fish, a 10gl qt, and many many hours of reading, and in a week or two, i am going to go for it again.. I need a skimmer soon, and some real lights, but i will be very patient..

Thanks all, and hope to chat soon...

Yeah, there are lots of stories of how the dude at the LFS lead people down the wrong track. There is a thread that is still active called Horror Stories. Read it. Ryan had a really, really bad experience with a LFS.

And it is good you have not purchased your skimmer and lighting yet. Read the threads here on both. With your system, if you go reef, you could easily spend $400 on each. I would HIGHLY recommend buying that which is required for a reef. Because once you put fish in there, and you see some of the tanks these dudes and dudettes have, you very well may want to upgrade.

And a reef tank NEEDS good skimming and lighting. That is where I am right now. Saving for a good skimmer and metal halide array. And trying to keep mum on the cost of it so my wife doesn't go through the roof.

Keep on truckin' dude. Your on the right track. You will enjoy the world of SW. This is the best hobby I have ever done. John.
