Sushiman is catching on

Default post #1.

Hello all, I'm from the GVRD here in B.C., Canada. Glad to find another local board.
I've got a 90gal mixed-reef, Solaris LED fixture, Euro-reef skimmer, 40w UV, yadda, yadda, yadda... Needless to say the set-up is coming along but still in it's infancy (set-up last January). I've got things running nicely, H2O specs are great & the few corals (softies, zoo's, paly's, red shroom's,GSP's, xenia and one green open brain) I do have seem to like LED's, growth has been substatial. I want to make sure temp stays steady before adding any SPS, LPS or clams as I don't have a chiller on this set-up. The LED's have been great heat wise, I find my nemisis is room temperature. On a hot day I've seem my temp soar to well over 88.7F (killed a very nice torch that day). Not good. I lost a nice 60gal display to boiling summer heat in the past, I think my wallet still hasn't recovered from that one. I have seen great sucess with evaporation /passive cooling. I've mounted a small shelf next to the display & have two large fans aimed directly at the surface. With both going, I've seen a drop of 3-4 degrees easily. I'm going to pick up some clip on fans for the sump in the next day or two.
I'm a terribly lazy reefer so I've been trying to focus on improving my maintenace skills & create simple & quick ways to run my system & make some of the annoying tasks such as frequent, small water changes as painless as possible. As a rule, I hate water changes, but I think I've got them licked finally. Anyways, I'm rambling. Looking forward to yacking with you all & buying up all your frags.

Cheers.

Todd.
