| High Everyone, New Member with a question about rock.... First Thanks to everyone at this site for the wealth of info I have been able to reference so far. I just received a 125+ Gal Tank, not sure of exact #, With live rock and sand. It had been with out power for sometime, think weeks. no fish in it or anything like that, but a lot of live rock. It came with a Proclear wet/dry filter w/protein skimmer(get to that later) and one pump. I plan on stocking with tropicals and others I will catch my self here in South Fla. I Live in Delray Beach and travel down to the Keys offten.
So I dumped the old H20 for transport, and rinsed everything out befor filling with new H2O and salt mix. Got the SG at 1.026. My question is, what is the condition of the rock since it went without circulation for so long? Thanks

| Different ppl have their ways of nuking. I've heard that you put the rock in FW with a little bleach and let it soak for a couple of hrs, rinse off and let it dry. Im not an expert at this, so you might want to wait for someone who has more exp. than me. |

| O.K. Thanks I read up on what I could find about nuking. It seems it is used to remve and kill all life on the rock. there doesn't seem to be much at all on the rock. A lil sploch of dark red here or there and hats about it. Is there another reason for the "nuke"? |

Great to see you getting into SW...You are going to love it.
Your LR is no longer live. If is pretty, and you still want to use it, just fill tank with SW, sand, add it with a bunch of new LR and get cycle underway.
Cycle may last a while, but dead stuff on old rock will help get it going.
Probably nothing living on old rock anyway, so no need to worry about adverse hitchhikers, etc.
Get it going & keep us posted.
Good Luck
