| Hi from tropical Minnesota Hi, Since we are having a blizzard here with 12 inches of new snow I figured I'd take the time to register rather than just lurk in these forums. On March 18, 2008 I began to set up a 20 gallon long reef tank in my office at work. I used to breed discus many years ago, but I got too busy with work, kids, and school so I sold all of my equipment. I'm not a complete newb, but salt water is new to me as well as a lot of the equipment has changed. Here is a list of what I have done so far.
1. 20gl long tank
2. 1 inch aragonite sand
3. 25 pounds Tonga Live rock.
4. 100 watt heater(can't remember brand, but it's a top of the line one)
5. Whisper 30 filter(will be going to a nano refugium)
6. Biocube 29 skimmer (not sure If I'm going to stay with it)
7. 2 hermits after two weeks of cycling
8. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrates 0, PH 8.3, KH 8-9, SG 1.023
9. I have also found what looks to be two anemones and one zoanthid polyp a very small brittle star, as well as numerous small featherdusters on the live rock.
10. Just received a 30" Current USA Satellite 65w light yesterday.
BTW I started the tank with distilled water and will continue to make all my water changes with that since it's pretty cheap. Everything appears to be thriving at this point. I may begin to add fish in a couple weeks if all goes well.
I've attached two pics. I think I have two hitchhiker anemones on the lower left hand side of the live rock in the second pic. Can anyone Identify them and are they harmful. Any info would be appreciated |

| Thanks for the warm welcome all. Seppish, I live just south of Duluth. Also thank you for the ID on the zoanthids, that makes three then. The other one was easy to identify, even for me. If you look just about an inch up and slightly to the right in that same pic you will see a feather duster, forgot to mention that in my first post.
Take care all, and have a great day. Scott ( seems to be few Scotts here) |
