Hi- new member!! Hi my name is Dianne and my husband Benji and I have two tanks- one 55 and one 10 - We began our journey last November 20, and we started out with a 29 gal, and a book! We moved into our 55 shortly after my b-day in April, the 10 gal we started in May. We have suffered two nitrite spikes in the 55- that we never encountered in the 29 and this last one, shortly after our ann. Oct.15, we nearly lost all our corals- We have never lost any fish or inverts due to spikes, and we have never had a crash in the 10 gal. Last week we finally got our mh system- Odyssea 2 250 mh, 2 96w actinics, and 6 led moon lights- 3 days ago we finally got a sump w/ bio balls put in, and we are now just waiting to see how it all is going to go. Our 10 gal has a 20/40 filter, as well as a 10/20 filter. As well as our sump on the 55, we are still running our Magnum HOT with only the porous nitrite absorbing filter media in it- we have a 400 and 600 powerheads in 55, and debating on one for 10 gal. We have 2 false percs,2 chromis, 1white-cheek tang, 1 kole tang, 1dwarf lionfish, 1 humbug damsel, 1 beau gregory damsel, 1 brittle star, and 1 bliney that I am not sure of in 55- in 10 we have 3 chromis, 1 mangrove snapper, 1 small colt coral, Xenias, condy anemone,- what we lost in 55 due to spike- 2 different sets of button polyps, Xenias, colt frags, and SPS that we somehow managed to cultivate on the same rock that the buttons were on- we started those in the 29 gal when we only had 2 96 10,000 k running-Soooo- to make a very long story short- Where do we go from here? Now that we finally have everything we need, (6,500 bucks later) Do we add more live rock- Benji thinks that we have at least 50lbs. now- and see what springs up, or do we buy more corals and basically start from scratch? I have decided to keep all my corals that are in the 10 gal where they are for right now, to the chagrin of my husband, but I don't want to take any chances until I feel the 55 is back on the road to full recovery. Any suggestions, solutions, comments- anything!! We only know two other people with tanks in our town- thank goddess for our fish store friends, they have went through hell and back with us!!! Thank so much!! |
