Hi, everyone!!
I'm Ed from Virginia... I'm new here and am looking forward to getting to know everybody here...
A little background: My interest in aquarium keeping started in high school oceanography class, I then began volunteering at the Virginia Marine Science Museum as a docent, and eventually in live exhibits helping to take care of the aquariums... I also enjoyed working with the stranding team (even though in 3 years of volunteering on the stranding team I was only involved in one live marine animal rescue... all of the other ones were necropsies)... I had some friends who's family owned a pet shop, so I got the hook-up on cheap tanks and freebies... I started with a beta in a bowl, then one freshwater tank, then two... then came the saltwater... first fish-only, then inverts, then some anemones... you get the picture... I was hooked. Before I knew it, I had turned my bedroom into a fish room with a total of 11 various size tanks... there was not even room for a full bed... I had to downgrade to a twin-size that was sticking out of the closet to make room for my addiction...
anyways... after high school, I was so consumed with the demands of being a responsible adult, all of my tanks were given away or sold, and for the past 10 years, I haven't had any water in my room at all

.
about 2 weeks ago, I took my 3 year old daughter to the Virginia Marine Science Museum (now called the Virginia Aquarium)... after that outing my "clean and sober aquarium-free" period is now over... I've got the bug again... so I just got a 10 gal tank and some stuff and set it up... gonna make it marine fish-only... maybe a couple of pepermint shrimp or hermits... I plan to make a large reef tank (haven't decided how large yet) I shouldn't have a problem doing this as I'm a very handy and mechanically inclined person (I'm a fabricator by trade)
sorry about the long post, but you can bet I'll be a regular here, and probably spend quite a bit of time in the DIY forum...
