| Hello fron beautiful Pinantan Lake My name is John and I currently have a 25 fresh that has been running for about 18 months without any problems. This is not my first tank and currently isn't my only. I have a little 10 that will be a QT (right now it's cycling with only gravel and water (trying rainwater this time) to get all the grunge out from the kid that had it last and let the calcium crust get on everything. Took a lot of scraping before I got to glass. I hate having to cycle twice but with used garbage (it did come from the dump) I have to let the good oupace the bad, then clean and then start again.
I also have a 70 that I found at the dump with all the goodies, 3 air pumps, HOB dual filter, stand, hood and an assortment of airstones and such. Boy that was inn car so fast....
I'm planning to build up a reef out of the 70 with a 40 gallon sump/fuge, a 48 x 4 inch skimmer built to use homemade basswood defusers and a small medical grade compressor for the air part. A DSB of 4 to 6 inches deep. and with agorocrete (I think the name is copyrighted, sorry if it is, kinda like getting a bic to make a fire) built up into the caves and crannies and spaces underneath (where the fish can't get) for the current pumps. I intend on using an over the side overflow skimmer that I saw on another forum that I thought was a stroke of genius. Seeding the "crete with smaller pieces of true live rock will populate the 'crete just fine over the next year or so. I'm not planning to have anything but mobile inverts for a year and a half (depending on the tank params,) but no less even if things seem good.
I have an autocad rendering of my plan and it's preliminary plumbing. It's not quite complete, but should give an idea.
Comments and mild abuse welcome.
John

| where I live water is at a premium. I have an RO but the well doesn't produce much, certainly not enough for a water hog like an RO. I'll get a bit from it but will have to haul my water for changes from town. That's why I'm building (overbuilding) my filtration to deal with small water changes, not that frequently. Hope it works. If not I'll just be stressing some shrimp and snails until I get it worked out.
Peace
