| Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself here. I have been keeping aquariums for most of my life now but have recently decided to get into reef aquariums. And let me tell you, its been awhile since I have been this excited, and confused, about setting up and maintaining a thriving aquarium. I have been lurking around and getting tons of great ideas from ya'll. It seems there are two, or three, or four, five different ways to do everything! I have my sump and plumbing (thanks to coveys DIY over flow) done for my 125 gal and hope to get some live rock in the next week or two. So look out for tons of questions. Thanks in advance |

| welcome tmrash, yep it's true- no two reefers , no two live fish stores or for that matter no two human beings do things exactly the same- the thing is to study out everyones techniques and info and figure out what will work for you , your budget , your tank size, etc. , etc, and have some fun along the way! |

You are correct. There's more than one way to skin a cat. For instance, a person name Paul B has been running his reverse underground filter sandbed tank for 35 years. He even has some pieces of asphalt that were in the ocean for ages being used as some of his live rock. When he gets algae in his tank, he just waits it out.
Would I ever set up one of my tanks like this? Most certainly not. Nor would I recommend that others follow his example. However, Paul has proved it can be done.
The key is to learn about different systems and their major pros/cons. Once you pick how you want to do something, learn all you can about that system so you can run your tank well. _________ Curt |
