 |  Greetings all and Question abouth bubble Anemones
I am new to this hobby, saltwater that is. About two months ago I started my first saltwater tank. It is a 40 gal, live rock with a hanging prism protein skimmer, and a fluval canister filter. I have: 2 percula clowns, 1 cleaner wrasse, 1 orange spotted goby, 5 sand snails, 1 green crab, 1 hermit crab, 1 flame scallop, 1 brittle star. A couple of corals, still trying to figure out the names. Yesterday, I lost my first purple-tip anemone
I also had a healthy bubble tip anemone. Last night I did a water change, also changing the contents of my canister since I had to disgard the purple tip anemone (which was decomposing). All looked well.
This morning, I went downstairs to feed everyone and to my surprise, my anemone dissappeared!  I checked everywhere in he tank. No sign of the critter!
I then had a sinking feeling that it got sucked into my canister. So I disconnected it, and opened it up, but to my surprise, nothing. I then inspected the intake pipe, and still nothing.
Question: If it did get sucked into the canister overnight, is it possible that the impeller chopped it into small pieces, to where there was never any evidence of it existing?
I am baffled and disheartened at losing such a healthy specimen.
Any got and answer for me?

BTA will move around quit a bit before they settle. I would never put any anemone in a tank less than a year old. lighting is also a big factor in the happiness of any Anemone. What kind of lighting do you have?
I would suspect your BTA is in the tank some where. In a small crevasse of a rock. I do not believe the pump in a Fluval is strong enough to pull it in. But you never now. What about your skimmer?

I dont think it got sucked up, but anything is possible. More than likely its somwhere in there hiding from you. Yep, system probably way to young to support an anemone yet.
They can shrink down and hide in a very small place.
It is in there someplace, or what is left of it.

|  Sorry for the delayed reply
I don't get on here much, but, here's the latest. After finding the BTA, seems to be fine. It apparently closed up under a rock and opens up when it wants. Seems to be moving around alot, but in the same general area.
I will keep you posted on how well I am doing with this new hobby.
