Talking Aloha from Hawaii!

I'm new to this forum thing, and this is my FIRST salt-water tank, but I just wanted to say Hello!... Everyone's got such great tanks here.... Hopefully I can find a solution for mine... Being that I live in Hawaii, we are not allowed to import coral, nor are we allowed to take them from the oceans. I am trying to find a solution for my tank, so that it will look better than just the live rock I have in it. (It's looking kind of colorless at the moment...I have had it for about 3 months now, it's only a 30 gallon tank. I initially wanted it to be a hermit-only tank, but I opened up to the idea of a few fishes in it as well...I have been considering a 100gal in the near future! ... (Contents of the tank-- I have three damsels in it, a couple of small (inch long at most) gobies, a halloween hermit, about 7 zebra hermits, and an unknown hermit that looks pink-ish but has very hairly legs..lol--she must not like to shave much!--, two cleaner shrimp, four feather dusters, and two brittle stars, that came as hitch-hikers on a live rock I got.). *in the photo there's a small humuhumunukunukuapua'a, I set him free because my father caught him on a hand-pole and I read up about him and found out he needs a 50gal at minimum....and I also added a proteinskimmer that says it is for 30-100gallon tanks, Seaclone brand). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Anyhows, thanks for reading this and have a good one.

Aloha!
-Minx

First-off welcome!

I would cry if my tank was coral-less

Premium LR with coral hitchikers! (okay, not likely, but a possibility!)

--It was LR that I took from the beach...we can take rock/coral rubble as long as there is no "visible lifeforms" on it.--

Hello and welcome to 3reef first of all! You will be glad you decided to become part of our community of reefers in hopes of obtaining and achieving the same common interests, conservation and becomming conscientous aquarists while maintaining vivid, healthy and enjoyable reef/fish tanks longterm!
Give it time and let the coralline algae grow and cover your live rock. That will ensure that you have some pretty pink, red and purple color to your rock work. Maybe some macroalgae as well to add some life to your tank.
If you can add zoanthids and mushroom anemones...it will add color immensely as they come in a myriad of color!
Good luck! and again Welcome(ALOHA)

Welcome to 3reef. Wouldn't hurt to have just a little more LR in your tank. They say 1 to 2 lb per gal. Anyway good to have you aboard.

To 3Reef!!!

Glad you found your way here. Good thing I do not live in Hawaii. It would be real hard to explain why a frag or two did'nt just fall in my trunks pocket while I was out diving.

is it just me, or is your tank really uneven? Another thing... with that much evaporation in your tank, you need to check your salinity. water evaporates, salt doesnt. You can super saturate your water with when the water evaps that much.
