Hello all, I'm open to advice since I only have experience with fowlr and african cichlids. Looking to start with some easy softies in a 54g corner tank and if all goes well try harder things. Knew about this site but never had any need until now (researching lights, may try the marineland reef capables). Been looking at frags on ebay and can't wait till I'm ready to go.

Have a lot of questions but only one big one currently, I was wondering if my flame hawkfish's appetite will cause a problem since he'd eat any shrimp I'd put in.

    Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to 3reef.

Hawkfish are not shrimp safe that is for sure. But other then their preference for shrimp and sm. crabs, they are reef safe IMO. Mine always accepted meaty frozen fish food enthusiastically.

Hello and Welcome to 3reef! Glad to have you aboard. I have no experience with hawkfish as I would rather have shrimp. Good Luck my friend

Thanks for all the replies, seems like an awesome community here. I guess I could have been a little more focused with my question, what I wanted to know is

'will the lack of shrimp due to my predator be of any concern when keeping softies?'

No you can keep all coral types without a shrimp present.

    Hope that helps somewhat.
    ;D
