new sand

hey I have crushed coral in my tank. I was wanting to mix it w/ some live sand, but just wondering if it would destroy my tank. I was just gonna put it in w/ my livestock and mix it around w/ the substrate I already have. Will that change any of my water perimeters or kill anything?

You cc is likely become live sand by now already. You may end up doing more harm than good. If the only reason you want Live sand is to get the "Live" part you don't need it. If you want it to get the smaller grain size then you are better off to syphon out all the old sand. Because the large grain size will always raise to the top

Disturbing the crush coral will cause a ton of problems, and run the risk of killing all everything. There is several different types of acids that build up over time in there with regular siphoning.

I thought you should vaccuum out the substrate if you have crushed coral so that the nitrates don't build?

Well no need to pay for L/sand just get some sand and add it.. I'd use some of the CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand and just add it.. Don't rinse it first though.

I meant without regular siphoning.
