Talking Kalkwasser with top off Water syste.=m.

Hey everyone,

I want to get a top off system so I can keep my water level in my sump at an appropriate level. I also want to use kalkwasser to top off the evaporated water. My question is what effects will kalkwasser have on the pump used with my auto top off system. Will I need to clean the pump very often, will the pump build up alot of calcium in the pump which will slow it down? Any info on this subject is greatlt apprecicated, thanks.

As with all pumps, they all need maintence. I dont have a ATO, but would have to assume that the cal. build up would occur.

For Kalk you don't need to use a pump. I run a Rain Bird solenoid valve like you use for sprinkler systems and hook that to the ATO I have. So when the ATO calls for water the valve opens up and I just pipe my RO/DI storage tank to the valve the the kalk reactor and wala I have make up water. Pretty easy to use.

this is what i use

Reef-Relief :: Automated Aquatic Top Off Controller
uses a selenoid, no moving parts directly to your ro/di

PM Kalkwasser Reactor - Ocean Aquatics Ltd.
i doctored it to have valves before the pump so when cleaning time comes for the pump its an easy do
