Default Salt Question

Hey Everybody,

I was wondering is Instant Ocean salt a good mix for the needs and growing of coral? (it just seems like a fish only mix...for some reason???)

Thanks!

I use it with my reef, and have no problems with coral growth, etc.

It's low in Cal and mag. It also generally mixes high in alk around ~11dkh. It is a good cheap FO or FOWLR mix but needs some adjusting to make it reef ready.

The guy in my club that I buy my frags from constantily adjust the Cal and Mag in his IO but his tank just happens to be the cooliest tanks I've seen in person. Other salts take less work though.

I never had a problem with instant ocean but most people i know prefer tropic marin salt because weekly water changes will replace all needed trace elements.

Default Instant ocean

Instant ocean also makes salt for reef tanks with added trace elements and cal. Reef crystals by instant ocean. it should be right next to it in the pet stores usually they carry both.

I used IO for a long time. Did have any problems. But like everyone said you have to adjust the CA and MG before adding it to your tank.

I currently use Tropic Marin Pro

I have tried every kind of salt mix there is, including water straight from aquarium in Seattle...

My tank likes IO over all the rest of them by far.

I do give it a little Ca bump.
