turning a sump into refugium

so what would i need to turn my sump into a refu i already have 15lbs of sand set up in the middle. i just need a light and some cullrpia right? and it a 10gal with bout 8 gal water in it, would it be a good idea to any other type of organism in there?

if u turn yer sump into a refuge u will want to turn the GPH down

yer prolly better off havin a seperate fuge so u can keep yer gph up high threw the sump for over all water flow and have a fuge on the side with a less amount of water flow

unless i modify yer sump to have a low flow area which im quite sure u can do with strategic placement of glass baffles

most fuges ive seen have a clean up crew wth snails crabs etc if u have a deep sand bed in there u dont want anything thats gonna burrow deep

i have a hangon protein skimmer/ refu on the sump but i only holds 1-2gal of water. but it just used to grow algea so that should be good for a 29 gal....

there isnt alot of flow in sand bed of the sump i have partition between the intake of the sump and the sand bed...how slow of flow are we talking?

im not sure on the maths of the flow rate but it will be way under yer 10x an hour min that yer sump should be running

there was a post on here a while ago about the flow rate of a fuge

as far as im aware u want the slowest possible flow rate u can get so the water has maximum exposure to the fuge area giving it a better efficiency to filtering the water

but i could be wrong

ok well that makes total sense i would need to slow down the flow then. i think i set up the sump quite nicely espeslly with what i was workin with

that looks alot like what i did with mine, only yours was way more neat then mine, dont mind the sand on the front. lol
