Default Small Refugium?

I am brand new to the world of saltwater and the thought of a refugium has me really interested. I have a 20g tank that I am setting up. I have a large freshwater filter (never used) that has a 3" by 6" tank that you are supposed to fill with filter media. A pump pulls the water into it and it goes through the filter. It then over flows into the tank. Can I make this into a mini refugium with a dragonfly light attached to it, or is this WAY too small?

I've seen this on nanos and it works really well. I even saw a filter with mangroves in it. Yup from what I have seen it works very well
