Question Refugium Setup help?

I've recently built a 20 gallon sump for my 75 gallon fowlr tank. I was going to put the refugium directly into the sump but had a ten gallon tank lying around and was wondering If it better to have the refugium in the sump or separate?? I am doing the plumbing on my tank and was going to divert some of the water from the return pipe to the fuge. I am doing a sand mud mix with some macro algae.

thanks

The more connections you have between the tanks the more possibilities there are for water leaks. I'd use one tank for the whole thing. I've got a 55 gallon divided into 3 sections: sump, fuge, and return. The return line to the tank is split so it can flow back to the sump (where my skimmer is located) and this water flows very slowly into the fuge, and then into the return section. The drain lines from my tank go directly into the return portion of the sump/fuge tank. All the water flow is controlled by in line ball valves. I've also used 100% clay inscented kitty litter for the fuge.

_________

110 gallon acrylic with compact flourescent/actinic
55 gallon for sump/fuge
about 40 lbs of live rock (more to come)
ssb in tank, dsb in fuge
