Default refugium lighting

i have bought a 150w metal halide for my refugeium but the new bulb taht came with it is an unknown colour temperature.
is this crucial for a refugium as i have encounterd an algae bloom.

Well,
Is this algae bloom limited to your refugium or has it traveled to your main tank?
I have not really been concerned with the color temperature of my refugium lighting mainly because I wanted good macro algae growth and the lower the kelvin temp the better it seems to grow. I am using a couple of fluorescent grow bulbs because I thought metal halide would be overkill??
Do you filter your refugium water before you pump it back to your main tank?

Jim
