| Pump = Overflow GPH I am finally going to put a Sump/Refugium under my tank. The pump (Rio 2500HP) will have a 4ft rise, which it is rated for 500 GPH at this rise. I am going to use a CPR 1” Overflow rated at 600 GPH. Will there be a problem that the overflow is rate 100 GPH more? Would putting a loop in the line slow it down a little? Use a ball valve for throttling?
A check valve recommend on the return line, to prevent a vacuum if power is lost?

| Re: Pump = Overflow GPH You will have to adjust the box that is in the tank so that it will work in sync with the pump. You can adjust the box at 1 GPH or 600 according to how high or how low you set it. I would recommend the valve. I would not recommend the RIO pump. Can I change your mind and get you to get a Mag-5? You'll be happier in the end. _________ &&Right now I'm in the middle of a conversion from reef to Discus/ planted aquarium. Hair algae beat me down. Maybe a nano in the future. Everything screwed up so I'm converting to FOWLR. Wish me luck. |

| Re: Pump = Overflow GPH Yup....I had a cracked housing on my Rio pump but not on the 2 Mag 5's that I have...... But if you have 4 feet of rise, you may need larger than the Mag 5......it is rated at 500 Gph at 0 feet of rise.......
Mag 5 is what I use for return pumps and I like them alot! _________ I Love My Sig By John Hawkins!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Re: Pump = Overflow GPH Unfortunately I am stuck to the Rio, as I am on a low budget and I already have one. I have experience with Rio pumps and the only problem is I have had (so far) is they are not very reliable on my Bak Pak 2 which I replaced with a MaxiJet 1200. Only way I can switch is if I decide to increase the flow drastically to replace all my Powerheads by using a Water Flow Diverter. If I go this way I would probably need to up grade to a Mag MD9.5 (950GPH @ 0 rise). So many ideas, not enough $$$!
Today I am off to buy my aquarium to start construction on the sump/Refugium! |

| Re: Pump = Overflow GPH Sounds good malachi. Maybe you can change those pumps out in the near future. |
