Hey All,
Well, I got new carpet put in my place and had to move my fish tank and all of my filtration. So, when life gives you lemons make lemon kirsch or something like that. Anyway, I thought I'd share my new project with everyone and see what you all think.
Here's how it works:
Water flows from the main tank into my sump (1)
Then, from the sump water is pumped into the frag tank (2)
Water from the frag tank flows back into the Refugium (3) which in turn goes back into the sump.
The second line from the sump pumps back into the main tank.
The final piece is the top-off/water change tank. (4) Most of the time this tank is used to top off with RO water. But, when I need to water changes, I flip the two ball valves and mix my saltwater. Then, all I have to do is drain from the main tank and let the auto=top off swith fill in the appropriate amount of new salt water.
I decided to plumb all of this with IPS PVC. If you haven't seen it before IPS is the thin walled PVC. More water volum for the diameter. In all I am very happy with the results. Here's the pic:
<EDIT> Forgot to mention one thing. The white on the walls is shelf paper. I thought it would help protect the walls and add reflection for better light in the frag tank. The shelf the frag tank is on is covered in mylar. With all of this, when both 96W lights are on it is hard to look directly at the tank.
