Miracle Mud is mostily hype. The method works but the method works with $4 for 40# Silca sand as well. The mud was just so someone could make some cash off the theory.

Use simple cheap no frill's cat litter if you want mud. Its all Ga clay the stuff wal mart sells for like 2.00 for a large bag.. The clay is just alkaline base from a dead reef with about all the elements your want thats all the magic mud was anyways and the fool paid high dollar for it wet LOL Or use some sand either or it makes little difference.

I went with the sand for the price and that you are suppost to replace certain amounts of mudd annualy and I didn't want that cost. My fuge is doing great. I am getting ready to start a 30 gal fuge for my 265 gal and I will use sand in it also.

The MUDD, works especiall well with the growing of macroalgae and mangrove shoots IMO. I like the diverse impact it adds to my tank as well as the combining it with live sand. I use Walt Smith's Fiji mud though, which is actual mud taken from the reefs of Fiji and it is a muddy, wet textured medium which works well for me>
