Any one have any thought about which one of these sediments is best? Between Miracle Mud, Mark Wiesses F.O.R.M. or Kent's BioSediment. Anyone ever use more than one so they cant constast?

Well my LFS didn't carry the Kent's or MM. I didn't feel like ordering mailorder so F.O.R.M. it is. I should of let the mud sit in the fuge but I was getting nervous about have the water flow off I turned on the pump and the FORM turned into a muddy mess >. Luckily I only have LR and some snails in the tank now. A little early to know if it works as advertised. One thing I can say for sure is Marc Weiss's customer service SUCK. I called them and a lady, that spoke very broken english told me to call the distributor. I checked their website and it doesn't have a email address to submit questions. Lame!

Maybe I shouldn't let winning by default be my way of choosing. Anyway I found out only after my LFS told me to the contary that FORM is not meant to be used as mud in a fuge! Even though it mud  Your just suppose to sprinkle it in. so I think I am going to end up pulling it out and replacing it with miracle mud. But I have to mailorder that.

I have small grain aragonite sand in my refugium. I know one person who raves about her MM.

Well here is what Kent had to say
"Hello,

Thanks for your inquiry. Marine BioSediment is a blend of the same minerals, in the same ratios and composition, found in reef lagoons. Essentially, it contains semi-soluble forms of calcium, magnesium, strontium, carbonates, and many trace elements including iron; as time progresses and bacteria in the substrate create weak acids (as a result of metabolism), the minerals are slowly released into the surrounding water. The product does not release any measurable iodine, nor would we design it to do such, since iodine is a supplement best dosed in controlled measures (especially when not using an iodine test kit) rather than indiscriminately released into the system without knowing the concentration.

Marine BioSediment is meant to be used as a substrate in refugiums and mud-filtration systems, where the particle size facilitates the colonization of the bacteria responsible for processing ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and some organic materials. We created Marine BioSediment because we saw what was available to hobbyists at the time and knew we could provide a superior product. This product is not mined nor is it collected from terrestrial sources, therefore we have a tight control over the quality of the product and exactly what goes into it. This, and the fact that Marine BioSediment is free of silicate (such as from silica sand) and random organic materials, makes it a better choice, in my opinion, than many of the competing products in the market. Upon inspection of our product you will find uniform consistency from bucket to bucket; this is often not the case with some competing products. All of these points add up to what is a high-quality product and performs well in the intended application.

I hope that I’ve provided the answers to your questions; if you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me, as I’m always more than happy to help!

Kindest regards,

Chris Brightwell

Me and reef_novice chose to use Kent BioSediment as the substrate in the 12gal Cube at the office. Its been up and running for about 2 months now... Cant really tell you if its doing the job since i dont know what to look for. How can we tell that its good or not. Give us a hint and we'll let you know whats going on.

Thanks

Marc.

Hey Marc,
Do have to dose anything that the Kents is suppose to supply? That is one way to find out if it is working. Also how are your nitrate levels? Your using it as a substate on the tank floor? I ordered 12lbs of the Kents for my fuge. When is is wet is it sand like or does it turn into a mud? Everyone seem to love there Miracle Mud but It is like 4X more expense than the Kent's I might just end up mixing the two.
