I may be wrong, but I wouldn't suggest or even use that type of light for a reef tank. The bulb, I want to say are only around 5000k.

I think it would depend on what you plan on housing in the refuge. Remember that that bulb has alot of red and yellow which will spur the growth of nuisance algae for one!

Either for a refugium or main tank bulbs, I do not think they are a good and viable alternative due to the kelvin rating with too much at the red end of the spectrum. I would stick with a 10000k or higher bulb!

again, did you read the article? its not for the main tank, its there to grow algae such as Chaetomorpha in the fuge
