Default How do I cure the gurgles??

Because of space I am installing a fuge above my 42 g hex tank.

I am pumping from by tank to the fuge (16g) and gravity drain back down to the tank. I drilled the bottom of the fuge for a bulkhead and ran 3/4" tubing from the bottom of the fuge to the bottom of a prefilter box. The prefilter box controls the level of water in my fuge.

By problem is the prefilter box drain gurgles. Besides the noise it puts bubbles into my tank. I have tried to put a sponge over the drain and adjusted flow into the fuge but still have the gurgles.

Any suggestions on how I get rid of the gurgles???

I'm not sure I understand your setup exactly, but I use a Durso standpipe from my overflow box to my sump/fuge. It's done a great job eliminating the gurgling noise -- current issues w/ random sounds aside (see my other post).
Hope this helps...

I also I'm having trouble understanding. The drain hose needs to have a even downward fall. If it has any elbows(45 or 90 deg) that will effect the drain, or something is blocking the water from flowing evenly.

Thanks for the great to the point posts...very helpful

There is a 90 degree fitting coming out of the bottom of the prefilter box with a piece of 3/4" tubing to the bulkhead in the side of the fuge. The 90 degree elbow is restricting the flow........plan to try replacing prefilter box with durso standpipe.

Thanks for the input.

Default Durso Standpipe is great

I installed the Durso standpipe on the outside of my refugium and use the prefilter box to control the water level in side the refugium. The stand pipe is about 3" below the desired water level. This is working great.....gurgles are cured.

Thanks for the advice Pisces23....some karma to you........

I think that that 3/4 is also a problem.
