Default Cess pool

My fuge has been up for a month and its starting to look like a box full of brown water the macro I got seems to be growing ok but the sand has got brown bubbles stuck to it.Any one elses go thru this phase? or should I take evasive manuvers [smiley=bigcry.gif]

Hi Nugio....mine is looking the same way! That looks like cyano, which is exactly what I have. I have tried adding more water movement and it has helped somewhat. I am also thinking of adding a few more critters to keep the sand stirred up a bit more. I know cyano can also be caused by excess nutrients in the water, I'm planning a water change for this weekend to see if this helps. I have also tried suctioning up the cyano with a turkey baster, you could maybe try that, too.....good luck!

cyano is usually red sometime green. this happened to my sandbed and i would say when you start seeing the bubbles, sand changing color and such its starting to work. it takes time for a sb to get established, the bubbles are probably the nitrogen starting to work its way out. also dont be alarmed if your sand below the surface starts turning color those would be the anerobic zones of the sand.
