| A bucket can be turned into a refugium.. You will be fine using thats if its the correct size for the main tank is going to support. The word refugium in its self tells it all.. It never said a Fancy Refugium.. These things started as more then simple concept to try and emulate nature a little more closely. The term just means refuge .. Like a Game refuge where everything is safe from predation . People now a days some 20 plus yrs of these things working like a charm are now trying to reinvent them into something they where never intended to be. I see them trying to turn them in to a second aquarium. Live rock and even in the last couple of yrs some are telling others to prefilter the water entering the refugium and even skimming the refugium supply water.
Then there are the ones who want a 100 gallon refugium to support a 75 gallon tank (: I see guys saying you need to push more and more water through the fuges then there where the ones who say Light htem 27/7 LOL Then they scream about the algae going sexual and releasing its stored nutrients and gametes to try and save its species .. People caused all f their algae wiping out their tanks themselves.. I to this day have never had any plant to go asexual I still have the plants I started with in the early 80's I was given a hand full of them and I still use their off spring and have sent out tons of it to others.. And I never use Cheado for my own refugiums. Feather and Grape Caulerpa's are all I ever use. Very slow flows and small sized tanks also and they always look nasty and swampy like a saltwater marsh. Its a swamp for bugs and bacteria no need for shrimp and clams and scallops just the lower sand fauna type of life is all thats needed in there.. _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

| Where it me I'd just use a vessel 1/10 the volume of the main system and a 10.00 shop light or a clip on reflector with the large aluminum type nd a Grow bulb. It needs not be fancy when its up and running and working as it should it will not be seen anyways..
I'd say my 20 gal fuge for this 180 cost me nothing except the bulkhead for the drain to sump. Old ceiling fixture and a old cracked 20 H silicone fixed the crack.. totally cost 10.00 (: But its fuguly.. |

Just drill a hole near the top of the tank on the side and then let gravity dump the water back in the sump. That way you will not need a pump or anything, just a T-valve and a bulkhead. _________ Scott 265g (Peninsula)

Never to be kept clean and spotless and no animals living in there they will feed on what you want to keep safe.. I just say this because I see guys now adding fish and other tangs like starfish LOL with any refugium if you can see more then 2 inches into it then you are not doing somthing correctly.. |
