| What is moonlight...since the moon has no light? I just almost self destruct at this term It just makes no sense to me. Can someone elaborate what a moonlight does? It is just sunlight, but is it a different part of the spectrum or something? |

| haha no, moonlight is referring to an led of either white or blue light just to put some light on your tank at night. It is for ascetic reasons mostly but supposably might help some corals mate as they would normally do so at night time in nature. moon light is just sunlight reflected. the leds create a low tint of light so you can see the tank and its inhabitants at night without turning on the main lights or shining a flashlight on them and stressing everything in it out. no specific wattage is necessary as it doesn't make a difference. |

I honestly think its a waste of time to add a so called moon light in hopes it will improve the functioning of the aquarium system .. It really won't I like them for a little light at night serves two purposes in that it allows the fish to see a bit and less chances of them becoming startled and jumping and it lights the whole room enough so that I could see to get a head shot on any idiot that would enter my area during the night and try to clear the hall , it just looks kind of cool (: Now thats why I use one .. _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

| I have seen pics and read posts were people have elaborite setups to mimic the dayly cycle of the sun/moon fases as far as controling things like moon phases 1/4/,1/2,3/4 and full, but unless you have more money then sence I would just use a side table lamp to light the roomand tank after your nornal tank lighting hours.( I think tangster likes them as he likes to give any intruders a sporting chance) LOL _________

In many species of symbiotic corals, spawning occurs synchronously several nights after the full moon. This process is correlated with the level of lunar irradiance, but the mechanism by which these cnidarian/zooxanthellate symbioses can detect such low levels of light remains unknown. Here we report the first biophysical evidence that the host animal exhibits extraordinarily sensitive photoreception in the blue region of the spectrum. Using a high-resolution laser-induced signal to detect tentacle scattering, we measured the effect of low irradiance on the contraction of polyps in the corals that normally have their tentacles extended in darkness. Similar to most deep-sea invertebrates, the action spectra of coral photoreception reveal a maximum sensitivity in the blue, at 480 nm, with a spectral band width (at full-width half-maximum) of ca. 110 nm. The spectra closely overlap the maximal transparency of oligotrophic tropical waters, thus optimizing the perception of low light at depth. The detected threshold of photoreception sensitivity is ∼1.2 X 10[15] quanta m[-2] s[-1] in the blue region. This makes corals capable of sensing the blue portion of lunar irradiance, as evidenced from the recorded slight contractions of polyp tentacles under variations in moonlight intensity.

but hearing a 12 gauge shotgun chamber a round in complete darkness still sends shivers down my spine.
