Cool Uv Or Not Uv, That Is The Question

I have been in the salt game for 12 years now, and just returned to fish after a long coral run. A few of my fish friends seems to be telling me to step up & get a UV, but I can't seem to fairly prove its worth. I have researched this to great lenght, but can't get a true read----I know which one I would get, just not if it is the right investment for my tank. Better lights seem more of an asset--What do you think?

i dont use uv or ozone on my reef tank. both kill good and bad bacteria and id rather have the tank handle itself.

yeah i feel the same way, hence why I haven't pulled the trigger on it in all this time. Not too sure it's the way to go--thought I'd take a poll.

Whereas a protein skimmer---on my 5th or 6th one.

Looking at getting Dual 150hqi for the tank instead--seems more bang for my buck

I bought one many yrs ago but it was b/c someone cleaned the outside of the glass with windex. The very next day, my tank water was green EVERYWHERE. The UV filter cleaned it up in 1 or 2 days(dont remember). I always understood that its ok to have one on a fowler tank but not a reef tank for the same reasons that reefguru just mentioned. Only get it if you have algae problems.IMO
