Default Which lights?

I am looking at lighting for a new 40 gal (3ftx1.5x1.0). It is between metal halides and T5. Are the MH worth the substantially large increase in price? Also consider i'm a beginner...

It all depends on what you want to keep in the tank this and next yr.. Soft corals and LPS corals and even some sps can be kept under T 5 But with M/H and good actinic lighting then you have more choices as to the corals you keep Clams will do fine under T5 and VHO's also.

I have Mh, Wish i went with T5 tho.

Some will say T5's will limit you and others will say you can keep anything with T5's.
personally i think t5 are better, more even light, better colour range more energy efficient and run much cooler the MH.
But Mh are brilliantly bright!

As a beginner tho - i would go with T5. You can definately kept soft corals which are really easy to look after.
