lighting schedule

can any one explain to me how long the lights should run

48in coralife hqi, actinic blue, and moon lights

Try to simulate a natural environment. Actinics on first in the mornig for an hour or two then all the lights on till an hour before sundown. Turn off the daylights then leave the actinics on for another hour then all lights off except moonlights.
Put them on timers so you don't have to do any of this manually

I'm with Jim.
1 hour blues / 10 everything / 1 hour blues.
Maybe less in the middle if you have halides.

i agree with matt on the schedule, but to give you an idea of a time frame...i run my lights from 9am-9pm. actinics: 9am-9pm, daylight: 10am-8pm, moonlights: 24/7...but most importantly this obviously all depends upon your schedule (what time you are home to take care of the tank, feedings, etc.), hth.
