Default lighting for a beginner's 90g

I am setting up a 90 gallon tank with a berlin style filtration system and a refugium. I am planning on setting up either a 4 lamp VHO system with two blues and two whites running off of a IC660. Eventually when i start putting in corals, i want to be able to put in 2x250 metal halides.

I am not sure what corals i will be looking at, but i am do like clams, so i would like to be able to keep some pretty light needy corals.

How do you all think this setup sounds?

Also, do you think I should use 2 or 4 VHO supplements and should i use 2x150 MHs or 2x250 MHs?

Matt

sounds workable! pair two actinics vho with your two MH 250w and your future clam will be happier than with two MH 150w. so go for it!

I retired the reef for now. Maybe a nano or a softies tank in the future when I have both time and money. 60 gallon FOWLR in the meantime. My echidna nebulosa are still going strong!

I would go with 2x110VHO actinic and 2x250 HQI MH. The HQI will output a higher PAR value light and more bulbs will work with HQI.

what brands would you suggest, i am thinking about IceCap440 and ARO's equivalent for the VHOs. What do you think about MHs?

Thanks

You could get these VHOs

Then this Ballast

And the bulbs I would go for are These

This is just my opinion and I have been proven wrong many many times.
