Default Lighting

I am working on setting up a fresh water plant tank. It has been suggested to me that it would need 14 hours of light a day. How do you feel ?

My planted tank was lighted for at least 12. That's just what worked for me. Plants were very healthy

Depends on wha type of lighting you will be providing.. with Regular out put Fluorescents then you need more hrs with VHO's less run time per day also bulb color makes a impact on the photo period time.. I ran my main VHO;s just 6 hrs aday to emulate full mid day sun on my old discus tank and had the lamps on 3 ballast 6 bulbs and one set would cycle on then the second a hr or two later then the 3rd set about a hr or so then 3 hrs full light then the off cycle started. worked very well for the plants and the discus bred like crazy as did the angels and all the Cardinals and neons tetra's They helped keep the main fish fed..
