Default Lighting

I am tinkering with an idea around lighting. For a FOWLR tank can I customize a fluorescent canopy you would use in a shop or do I need to purchase the specific aquarium produced lighting? I am wondering due to the fact it is a FOWLR tank.

Thanks

I am guessing you mean the shop lights with the metal canopy? If you are suspending it over the tank, it may be OK, but if you are placing it close to or directly on top of the tank, the salt water contact and metal concern me, as far as corroding the fixture.

I agree with Birdlady they will work perfectly fine. As with any light you need to protect it from moisture. I would personally mount it in a canopy. As long as there is a glass top on the tank I don't see any problems. If you don't have a glass top buy some acrylic and use it to shield the lights from moisture.

I would just paint it with a weather proof paint. *If it shows sighs of rust or saltwater erosion just paint it again. *It think that is a great Idea. *Or you could just buy the bits that make up a NO lighting system and build a wood box for it.

Thanks for all the help!
I think by saving the extra $ on the lighting I can upgrade my protein skimmer
